Sean's story
A singer of songs that warm, rouse and inform.
Seán Mathews is a Folk Singer-Songwriter from Drogheda, Co Louth in Ireland.
Seán's latest single "Our Jack" featured on the RTE Radio 1 recommends list for the month of August 2022. His second studio album, Welcome to Ballsgrove, was released to a sold out audience in Droichead Arts Centre the same month.
"Mathews has a good way with words in the songs on offer and he delivers the tracks with a sense of real feeling that must come across very powerfully in live performances."
Irish Music Magazine
"There is a remarkable maturity in Mathew’s songs and it definitely transcends his time on this planet. His unique brand of urban folk is grounded in realism that the listener can relate to on Welcome to Ballsgrove, as his tales weave cleverly blend the landscape and people within, detailing their lives, loves, hopes and loss." Folk and Tumble
As a member of the Drogheda singers, an unaccompanied singing group meeting weekly over 40 years, Seán has been influenced by the elder singers in this community. The borderless, non-zealous attitude that the Drogheda Singers have shown to all comers has been an inspiration to Seán and a tradition he intends to follow for life.
